Cap'n Crunch History

1963 - Cap'n Crunch cereal is introduced.

Cap'n Crunch first set sail for grocery store shelves in 1963. The Cap'n and his wacky crew were created by Jay Ward, who is also known for his other creations such as Rocky and Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right and George of the Jungle.

1967 - The Cap'n unveils his newest creation, Crunch Berries.

Delighted by the popularity of Original Cap'n Crunch, the Cap'n decided to create a new cereal flavor to share with his hungry fans. In 1967, the Cap'n introduced Crunch Berries, a colorful combination of red, blue and teal berry shapes mixed with Original Cap'n Crunch biscuits.

1969 - Peanut Butter Crunch sets sail for grocery stores.

The Cap'n loves to experiment with new flavors, which led to the creation of Peanut Butter Crunch in 1969. It became an instant hit and has been popular ever since.

1982 - The Cap'n and his crew travel to Crunch Island.

The Cap'n and his crew, along with his arch-nemesis Jean LaFoote starred in their own animated series, The Mystery of Crunch Island, which premiered in 1982.

1985 - The Cap'n sails the seas.

The Cap'n was caught in a major storm in 1985 and blown off course. Fans around the world wondered whether they will ever see their beloved Cap'n again.

1997 - OOPS! All Berries drifts onto grocery store shelves.

While the Cap'n was lost at sea, he still managed to create OOPS! All Berries cereal in 1997. It was originally a limited time offering, but is now an everyday offering in the Cap'n's fleet of flavors!

2011 - The Cap'n has found land and unviels Chocolatey Crunch.

The Cap'n's adult fans around the world are rejoicing now that he is no longer lost at sea! The Cap’n didn’t waste any time getting back to the test kitchen in 2011. He’s just cooked up a decadent delight called Chocolatey Crunch.

2012 - The Cap’n ships his latest sweet treat - Cinnamon Roll Crunch.

Few people knew about the Cap’n’s love of baked goods until 2012 when he introduced Cinnamon Roll Crunch. With its straight-from-the bakery taste, this new Crunch delighted fans everywhere.
